Good Afternoon CFTP Members,

This week we get to hear from one of our amazing trainers, Krishelle Butterfield. Before we do I want to make an announcement.

As many of you know, we have welcomed in a couple of young athletes who are two of the top CrossFitters for their age group. Delaney Dangerfield and Keagan Barnes just joined our gym and they have been invited to the “Teen CrossFit Games” or the Teen Gauntlet Invitational during the CrossFit games at the end of this month. We decided to do what we can to help them get out to California and represent CrossFit The Point. So for the next couple of weeks we will be accepting donations to help them afford the trip out there. We will have a jar sitting next to the computer that you can contribute to. We can also run your card if that is more convenient. All donations will go directly to these two families. Any little bit helps, so if you have an extra dollar or two or twenty, your contributions would be put to good use.


Now onto the Sunday Spotlight given by Krishelle Butterfield:

Good Morning CFTP members! Dan asked me to write this Sunday’s Spotlight, and I’m excited to pass a couple of things along to you all.
First of all I just want to say how much I enjoy training you! I really look forward to Monday nights. It has been so rewarding to watch you all work so hard and it’s amazing to see everyone’s progress. I also enjoy watching you encourage and support one another. I feel inspired by each and every one of you and I want to thank you for that!
If someone asked me what it takes to do CrossFit, I wouldn’t tell them you need to be a heavy lifter, or run fast, or do pull-ups, handstand push-ups, ring dips, etc.  I believe there is one thing, above everything else, that every CrossFit athlete needs… that is mental-toughness.  It doesn’t matter what physical shape you are in, if you have mental-toughness you will be able to set goals, push yourself to the limit during every WOD, and you won’t be discouraged by set-backs and dissapointments.  It takes mental toughness to keep going when every muscle in your body is screaming at you to stop, to keep working at a movement that you’ve tried over and over and just haven’t been able to do yet, and it takes mental-toughness to eat clean when you are surrounded by junk food and you’re starving.
As a college athlete, I learned so much about mental-toughness.  Although I’m still building it, and I have a long way to go, I know that there were times that my mental-toughness was the only thing that kept me hanging on in challenging times.  I had many coaches who pushed me to my limits.  There was one in particular who I learned so much from.  He said that as an athlete the most important thing to have is mental-toughnes, and that is so true.  I came accross something that I would like to pass on to you.  I’m not sure who wrote it, but it is awesome.  If you can work on building these characteristics, you will see a huge difference in your performance and progress.
Mental-Toughness Framework
  1. Having an unshakable self-belief as a result of total awareness of how you got to where you are now
  2. Having an inner arrogance that makes you believe that you can achieve anything you set your mind to
  3. Having the belief that you can punch through any obstacle people put in your way
  4. Believing that your desire or hunger will ultimately result in your fufulling your potential
  5. Refusing to be swayed by short-term goals that will jeopardize the achievement of long term goals
  6. Recogonizing the importance of knowing when to switch on and off from your sport


  1. When training gets tough (physically and mentally) because things are not going your way, keeping yourself going by reminding yourself of your goals and aspirations and why you’re putting yourself through it
  2. Having the patience, discipline, and self-control with the required training for each specific developmental stage to allow you to reach your full potential
  3. Remaining in control and not controlled
  4. Using all aspects of a very difficult training environment to your advantage
  5. Loving the bits of training that hurt
  6. Thriving on opportunities to beat other people in training

Being mentally tough will not only benefit you in CrossFit, but it will help you out in your everyday life as you face challenges.  Every single one of you have mental-toughness, or you wouldn’t be a CrossFitter!  Let’s work together to build and strengthen one another physically and mentally, to be the best we can possibly be.
